severe metabolic acidosis, blindness, unconsciousness and death. Onset of symptoms may be delayed, usually 12 - 18 hours.

Acute - Eye May cause irritation.

Acute - Skin Toxic in contact with skin. May cause irritation.

Acute - Inhaled Toxic by inhalation. Effects may be delayed. Inhalation of vapor may cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, cramps,

digestive disturbance, CNS depression, blindness, unconsciousness and death.

Chronic Repeated or prolonged skin contact may cause chronic dermatitis. Toxic: danger of very serious irreversible effects through inhalation,

in contact with skin and if swallowed.

First Aid

Swallowed Rinse mouth thoroughly with water immediately. Give plenty of water to drink and induce vomiting.

Use fingers in the throat, Ipecac Syrup (APF) or similar emetic. Seek immediate medical assistance.

Skin Wash with plenty of soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before re-use. If swelling, redness, blistering or irritation

occurs seek medical advice.

Inhaled Remove victim from exposure - avoid becoming a casualty. If breathing laboured and patient cyanotic (blue),

ensure airways are clear and have qualified person give oxygen through a face mask. If breathing has stopped

apply artificial respiration at once. In the event of cardiac arrest, apply external cardiac massage. Seek urgent medical assistance.

Spills and Disposal

Spills & Disposal Eliminate all ignition sources (no smoking, flares, sparks or flame) within at least 50m.

All equipment in handling this product must be earthed. Do NOT touch or walk through this product.

Stop leak if safe to do so. Prevent entry into waterways, drains, confined areas.

Vapor suppressing foam may be used to control vapors. Absorb spill with earth, sand or other non-combustible material. Use clean,

non-sparking tools to collect material and place it in loosely-covered metal or plastic containers for later disposal.

Water spray may be used to knock down or divert vapors.

SEEK EXPERT ADVICE ON HANDLING AND DISPOSAL.

Fire/Explosion Hazard

Fire/Explos. Hazard HIGHLY FLAMMABLE: These products have a low flash point. Will be easily ignited by heat, sparks or flames at ambient

temperatures. Vapors will form explosive mixtures with air. Vapors will travel to source of ignition and flash back. Many

vapors are heavier than air and will collect in low or confined areas (drains, basements, tanks). Many liquids are lighter than water.

Containers may explode on heating. Fire will produce irritating, poisonous or corrosive gases. Vapors from run-off may create an explosion hazard.

Fire Fighting Caution: Use of water spray when fighting fire may be inefficient.

Procedures Small fire: Use foam, dry chemical, CO2 or water spray.

Large fire: Use foam, fog or water spray - Do NOT use water jets.

If safe to do so, move undamaged containers from the fire area. Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until well after the fire is out.

Avoid getting water inside the containers.

Fire Fighting Wear SCBA and chemical splash suit. Fully encapsulating, gas-tight suits should Precautions be worn for maximum protection.

Structural firefighter's uniform is NOT effective for these materials.

Hazardous Reaction Can react vigorously with oxidizing materials. Can ignite in contact with potassium tert-butoxide.

Can react vigorously with chloroform in the presence of sodium and sodium hydroxide.
